Following Allan Savory’s TED Talk in 2013, TED asked Allan to write a “TED Book” for their online bookstore that would give the talk’s viewers some of the background behind his discoveries. Shorter than traditional books, TED Books run about 20,000 words each – long enough to explain a powerful idea, but short enough to be read in a single sitting. And that perfectly describes The Grazing Revolution: A Radical Solution to Save the Earth.
Last year TED discontinued its digital book series and turned the publishing rights for The Grazing Revolution over to the Savory Institute. That has enabled us to publish a second edition, with a few updates from Allan, as both a digital and full-color paperback book.
In The Grazing Revolution, Allan highlights key points from the TED Talk through the telling of his own story of discovery, debunking common misconceptions and providing a vivid chronicle of the process by which he has seen scrubby wasteland revert to a robust ecosystem. He shows how our age-old agricultural practices are contributing to climate change and argues that by re-imagining these practices, we can reverse desertification and save the planet. For many of his listeners that seemed a radical plan, which TED captured in creating the book’s subtitle.
This book makes a great gift for those who want to know more after listening to Allan’s TED Talk but aren’t quite ready to delve into a 500-page textbook. Digital and paperback books are now available on Amazon and from other online retailers.
