Savory Journey to Patagonia: 2020

January 2020 trip report by Trey Shelton

Savory Journeys’ recent tour to the Patagonian region of Chile and Argentina was an “excellent balance between learning about holistic farming methods, experiencing local culture, and having fun”.

During this intimate journey, we explored the unique
holistic context of this beautiful area of Patagonia and connected directly
with land managers improving their resilience through regenerative and holistic
management. We spent time discussing and sharing ideas on land, innovative
tourist businesses, livestock, wool, genetics and the local Gaucho culture.

Our hosts at Fundo Panguilemu, Lizzie and Jose were “fantastic!” “Their warm personalities, extensive experience, and unbelievably beautiful farm made for a great trip.” We spent multiple days exploring Fundo Panguilemu both walking, driving and on horseback and had the privilege of being shown around by some of the individuals who brought holistic management to South America.

We were also hosted by amazing people in incredible places like 45 Degrees South Farm along with seeing the results of holistic management on the dry side of the Andes at Estancia Numancia in Argentina. Here, we had a wonderful welcome with amazing food and spent time seeing the difference in outcomes from land left to rest for more than 60 years, land overgrazed for generations and land where holistic management has been practiced for many years.

“The food was great across the board. Great options and variety. Pisco sours, lamb, local beer.... I'm ready to go back. Being able to sit down to meals like we had in Argentina was incredible. You can't get an experience like that as a plain old tourist visiting the region.”

Come join us on the next Savory Journey Down Under to Australia and New Zealand this coming November followed by our Journey to Dimbangombe, Zimbabwe in May of 2021 and find yourself immersed in the incredible global experience that is Holistic Management!
