To facilitate the large-scale regeneration of the world’s grasslands and the livelihoods of their inhabitants, through Holistic Management.
Our big, audacious goal.
Small incremental change won’t solve our global problems. We’re on the brink of affecting major change at the landscape level, and to that end our strategy seeks to influence the management of 1 billion hectares by 2025 through the establishment of 100 Hubs.
Properly-managed livestock are key to healthy grasslands, which…
- absorb and store carbon in soils,
- teem with water and a biodiversity of species,
- provide nutritious, healthy foods, and
- create economic abundance for farmers and ranchers.
In the 1960's, Allan Savory made a significant breakthrough in understanding what was causing the degradation and desertification of the world’s grassland ecosystems and, as a resource management consultant, worked with numerous managers on four continents to develop what by the early 1980's had become Holistic Management.
Center for Holistic Management
In 1984 Allan Savory founded a nonprofit organization in the USA, the Center for Holistic Management, to further develop his work. Known by several names over the years (the Allan Savory Center, the Savory Center, Holistic Management International), Allan left the organization in 2009 to found the Savory Institute.
Africa Centre for Holistic Management
ACHM founded in 1992 by Allan Savory and Jody Butterfield, who donated a ranch to be used as a learning site, and with the staff created what became the prototype for the locally led and managed Savory Hubs.
Launched in July 2009 by Allan Savory, Daniela Howell and a handful of others to accelerate the worldwide spread of Holistic Management through an international network of entrepreneurial innovators and leaders committed to serving their regions with the highest standards of Holistic Management training and implementation support.
February 2013, Long Beach, CA, Allan Savory inspires his audience and nearly 5 million others who have since viewed the talk online. At the TED event in 2014, Allan’s talk was recognized as one of the 50 most intriguing TED talks of all time.
Global Hub Network
In 2013, a handful of other hubs joined the Africa Centre, as the Savory Hub Network was officially launched. Today there are 35 hubs with a goal of 100.
1 Billion Hectares regenerating through Holistic Management. 100 Global Savory Hubs established.
