Virtual Ranch Field Day

August 14, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm PDT

The Jefferson Center is experimenting with healthy soils. In our Great Basin region of vast rangelands, pastures and more cattle than people (at least in Modoc County), what practices create healthy soil? Which are realistic and economical for the farmer or rancher? We are engaged in a three year study to answer these questions. The experiment started last year, and we “broke ground” (or should we say built ground) this spring. By mid-August, we’ll have preliminary results to discuss and share.

Register for this free one hour webinar at 5 pm Pacific Time on August 14 to learn about the experiment, which includes compost application, interseeding using a NoTill Drill, and Holistic Planned Grazing. We are watching the budget and biodiversity throughout to see how both are impacted by these actions alone, and combined.

Please register prior to July 15. Starting on July 17, we will send out one professionally produced short video on each aspect of the project to all registrants. Think of this as our virtual field walks. Videos will be sent to all registrants on July 17, July 24, July 31 and August 7.

Registrants have time to reflect on the material and come to the webinar with questions and discussion points. The webinar roundtable discussion will be recorded, so if you have an interest but are not sure you can make the live event, please register to receive the videos and a link to the recorded webinar.
