Context

A new approach is needed to address the most pressing global problems we face today: global climate change, failing agriculture, increased droughts and flood events, catastrophic rates of soil erosion, hunger and poverty, among other disasters, combined with the broadening recognition that our economic models, based on the flawed presumption of infinite growth in a world of finite resources, are inherently unsustainable. This new approach needs to involve a paradigm shift, a whole new way of thinking, because the old ways of thinking have helped create these global problems. Holistic Management is a framework for decision-making that supports individuals and groups to make a paradigm shift.

Benefits

  • Manage land to improve its health and create a sustainable future for generations to come.
  • Increase profits, stocking rates, and crop yields.
  • Increase biodiversity: native perennials, wildlife, soil microorganisms.
  • Improve quality of life.
  • Mitigate flood, drought and climate change.
  • Whether you are a farmer, conservationist, government employee, business person or informed consumer, this whole landbase, whole system approach to resource management gives you the management tools to understand nature and work with it.

Learning Outcomes by Course

Level Learning Outcomes
Holistic Management Fundamentals3-Days
  • Develop awareness of how the paradigms which underpin Holistic Management are different from conventional paradigms.
  • Develop a Holistic Context to guide your decisions and actions.
  • Gain practical experience with the holistic decision-making process that guides management and is critical to masterful practise.
  • Consolidate learning of the fundamentals of Holistic Management by diagnosing the root cause of a land-based issue, and recommending its treatment.
Holistic Financial Planning2-Days
  • By integrating this simple-to-use, cash-based planning process into your current accounting or budgeting systems, you will be able to increase your profit, improve your quality of life, and increase your land’s health and productivity.
Holistic Ecological Monitoring1-Day
  • Learn two monitoring procedures: Basic Monitoring (qualitative) and Comprehensive Monitoring (quantitative).
  • Gather enough information to keep your management on track in both the short and long-term.
Holistic Planned Grazing2-Days
  • Following the aide memoire step by step, whilst noting each decision on the grazing chart, renders even the most complicated situation simple, and produces the best possible plan.
  • This allows you to manage livestock grazing so that animals stay healthy and productive whilst increasing the biological capital that will sustain your business and livelihood for generations to come.
Holistic Land Planning1-Day
  • Consider new fencing layouts that minimise the number of water points required and that give much greater flexibility in grazing planning and more options for improving animal performance.
  • Anticipate the facilities needed to have in place as animal numbers and herd sizes increase, thus avoiding costly redesigns in the future.
