We're a Global Movement of

Facilitating The Regeneration of Grasslands

Grasslands are vast landscapes that have the capacity, if properly managed, to address some of humanity’s most urgent challenges such as water and food insecurity, poverty, and climate change.

Currently, grasslands are desertifying at alarming rates.

Holistic Management of grasslands can result in the regeneration of soils, increased productivity and biological diversity, as well as economic and social well-being.

At the Savory Institute, it’s our mission to regenerate these critically important and fragile grasslands.

Managing complexity through

Holistic Management

Holistic Management uses decision-making and planning procedures that give people the insights and management tools needed to work with the web of complexity that exists in nature: resulting in better, more informed decisions that balance key social, environmental, and financial considerations.

In the context of the ecological restoration of grasslands worldwide, managers implement Holistic Planned Grazing to properly manage livestock – mimicking the predator/prey relationships in which these environments evolved.

Impact Strategy

We're not your typical NGO, and with over 30 million acres influenced since 2009, our impact speaks for itself.

Our programs are global in scope, grassroots in execution, and holistic in terms of providing the knowledge, resources, and connections necessary for farmers, ranchers, and pastoralist communities to create truly regenerative outcomes.

Demonstrating Success

The Savory Institute equips land managers with innovative tools and curricula and conducts research on the ecological, social, and financial outcomes associated with Holistic Management. This research is used to inform policy discussions on issues such as climate change, land stewardship, and food security. The Institute continues to enhance its knowledge through its own practical learning site, the West Bijou Ranch, located in Colorado, USA.

Equipping Farmers and Entrepreneurs

The Savory Global Network, comprised of Savory Hubs, Accredited Professionals, and Regenerating Members, advocates, trains, and supports land managers around the world to regenerate land in their own context through Holistic Management.

Influencing Markets

Savory Institute’s Land to Market program, deployed by the Savory Global Network, is the world’s first outcome-based, verified-regenerative sourcing solution. The program connects conscientious brands, retailers, and consumers directly to supply derived from land that is verified to be regenerating.

Accredited Hubs

Savory Hubs are locally owned, led and managed initiatives across the globe, offering Holistic Management consulting and training services, on-going support, accreditation, state-of-the-art content and tools, and access to the land, networks and funding resources necessary to create a local impact.

Hub Candidates

Organizations or individuals chosen to participate in a vetting and application process in order to become a Savory Hub.

Special Projects

Special Projects are partnerships with aligned organizations, with the intention of building capacity and proof of concept in key strategic regions. Special Projects may evolve into Hubs once capacity is built and local leadership developed.

“We would like to see people come and help us help ourselves.”

-Zulukama Wool Revolution

In the Maasai Mara, the local Savory Hub is preserving wildlife by making livestock more economically viable.
